Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the self-management level, stress, quality of sleep, and quality of life for patients with inflammatory bowel disease(Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), and to analyze factors affecting the quality of life.
Methods: The subjects were 195 patients with inflammatory bowel disease between the ages of 17 and under 65 who visited a university hospital in Daegu. Data has been derived from self-administered questionnaire survey.
Results: As a result of multiple regression analysis to find out the factors affecting the quality of life of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, whether Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis were not a significant factor in distinguishing the quality of life. The statistically significant variables were age, self-management degree, stress, and quality of sleep. Higher levels of self-management and higher age groups had higher quality of life, and lower quality of sleep and higher stress had lower quality of life.
Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life of inflammatory bowel disease patients, it is necessary to develop and manage interventions to manage stress and improve quality of sleep. Support is needed to positively recognize the patient's health status and to improve the degree of self-management by establishing a relationship of trust and emotional support through open communication and constant counseling.
